A fine example of a traditional Grade 2 listed coaching inn, The Chequers offers modern comforts in a lovely building dating back to 1548. We are ideally situated for those looking to visit many of the places and events around with the assurance of a comfortable room to which to return. We have a private car park, a lovely garden and an Antique and Collectables shop as well.
We have 9 beautiful bedrooms, some single, some double/twin and a family room - and a room with a four-poster bed for that historical touch. 8 rooms have en-suite facilities and one a private shower. We have excellent meeting and conference facilities too, and can providecater for up to 50 people if required.
We serve excellent regional food which is, wherever possible, local, seasonal and sourced from only the best suppliers in the area. You can find a sample menu on our website, but we are by no means limited to this, and pretty-well anything is possible! We can provide suitable food for the whole day, from breakfast through morning coffee and snacks, lunch, afternoon tea (with cream teas) and into the evening.
Just a few minutes walk from Pulborough Railway Station with frequent services between London and Portsmouth, we are ideally placed for those seeking to travel by train to the various castles and to historic Chichester and Portsmouth with its great naval history and of course to and from Gatwick Airport. By road, many of the Roman sites and grand houses such as Petworth and Parham can easily be reached, as can Brighton and other coastal attractions, not forgetting Goodwood with its many events, The Festival of Speed, the Revival and many horse-races. The West Sussex golf course is close by.
Nearer to hand, the well-known RSPB reserve at Wigginholt across the river Arun flood plains can be reached on foot.
